How does language function? is a photographic study based on the construction of language which explores its intersections with movement and translation. It started as a research on sign language, a form of speech that I saw as a dance choreographed by words. Failure to understand became the starting point; it can serve as an interesting detour offering room for new interpretations. And many interrogations emerged : What happens in cases of failure in the process of communication; what does it become? How can we translate a movement into a fixed state? This research brought me to wonder: how is language constructed, how does it work, how do we extract meaning from forms? this is where the project stands; it’s a visual response to questions running in my brain.
